"The City of Salinas is a hard-working community. Success in the future will require increased preparation and the ability to read and communicate. Working closely with the Homecare Workers Training Center at the Firehouse Recreation Center is a great way to help deliver these needed services at the neighborhood level."
–-Mayor Dennis Donohue - City of Salinas

Ticket To Work
The Homecare Workers Training Center is an Employment Network in the Social Security program, Ticket to Work.

Ticket to Work recipients can enroll in the HWTC, become trained in Long Term Health Care, and be placed in employment. A trained HWTC staff member will create a plan and help with program issues for each participant.

  1. Social Security sends out an authorization for services known as a "Ticket"
  2. Ticket participant contacts the HWTC to discuss.
  3. Have your work needs assessed by the Homecare Workers Training Center - Your Individual Work Plan will directly reflect your employment needs
  4. Develop your Individual Work Plan (IWP) - Training Center Curriculum and guidelines for C.N.A Certification
  5. Enroll in classes with HWTC - Enrollment requirements may vary per participant
  6. Enroll in Certified Nurse Assistant Training - Ticket Holder will receive counseling and guidance throughout the certification process
  7. HWTC will assist in job placement - Ticket Holder will begin working and earn income
  8. C.N.A’s will be placed at a Union Contracted Facility with Benefits and long term job stability

  9. The Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program is an employment program for people, who are interested in going back to work. The Ticket Program is part of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement Act of 1999 – legislation designed to remove many of the barriers that previously influenced people’s decisions about going to work because of the concerns over losing health care coverage. The goal of the Ticket Program is to increase opportunities and choices for Social Security disability beneficiaries to obtain employment, vocational rehabilitation (VR), and other support services from public and private providers, employers, and other organizations.

Under the Ticket Program, the Social Security Administration (also referred to as the Agency) provides disability beneficiaries with a Ticket (-Click here-  to see an image of a Ticket) they may use to obtain the services and jobs they need from a new universe of organizations called Employment Networks (ENs), such as the Homecare Workers Training Center.
